SUVs are growing in popularity in the United States, but are they more popular than cars throughout? The picture changes depending on which state we are talking about.

You will be surprised, but there are regions in the United States where passenger cars are in greater demand than SUVs, and therefore, people looking to buy one have a greater choice. This can be clearly seen from the table compiled by iSeeCars.com.

• The highest percentage of SUVs - 55.4% - is found in the state of New York. Michigan is only slightly behind with 54%.

• The lowest percentage of SUVs was recorded in Hawaii. However, they still make up more than a third of the state’s vehicle fleet – 38.5%. 

• Hawaii also has the highest percentage of minivans of any US state - 5.3%.

• Pickup trucks are not the most popular vehicle type in any state, with the highest share in Wyoming - 37.1%.

• Passenger cars are the most popular type of vehicle in the warm states like California and Hawaii. Here they comprise 46.4% and 41.6%, respectively.
